Sofa Cleaning in Riga: Prices, Process and Drying Time
Most people start looking for sofa cleaning in Riga for one of three reasons: a fresh stain that won’t come out, a smell that airing no longer fixes, or a sofa that simply looks tired and grey compared to the day it was delivered. Whichever it is, the same questions come up every time: how much does it cost, what exactly happens during the visit, and how long until you can sit on the sofa again? Below we answer all three honestly, with real prices and real timings, so you know what to expect before you call anyone.
Why a sofa gets dirty even when it looks clean
Upholstery works like a filter. Every day it collects dust, skin flakes, hair, crumbs, sweat and whatever was spilled and quickly wiped. A household vacuum removes what sits on the surface, but most of the dirt sinks into the fabric and the foam underneath. That is why a sofa can look acceptable from a distance and still smell stale up close, or why the armrests and the seat where everyone sits turn noticeably darker than the back.
Typical signs that it’s time for a deep clean:
- Darker areas on armrests, seat cushions and headrest zones — that is body oil and dirt, not “the colour fading”.
- A smell that returns a few hours after airing the room — the source has soaked into the foam.
- Old stains that you have already tried to remove at home, sometimes leaving a ring around them.
- Pets, small children or allergies in the household — here regular cleaning is about hygiene, not only looks.
Why home cleaning often makes things worse
The most common damage we see in clients’ homes does not come from dirt — it comes from earlier cleaning attempts. Universal cleaners, dish soap and anything with bleach often don’t dissolve a stain but “lock” it into the fibres, and afterwards even professional equipment struggles to remove it. Too much water is the second mistake: the foam gets soaked, dries slowly and starts to smell. We explained this in detail in our article on why you should never clean a sofa with household chemicals.
The safe first aid for a fresh stain is simple: blot it with a dry towel from the edges towards the centre, use only clean cold water, and don’t rub. If water doesn’t help, stop there. More tips are in our guide on how to remove stains from a sofa.
How professional sofa cleaning works, step by step
A technician comes to your home with professional equipment — you don’t need to take anything anywhere. The whole visit for one sofa usually takes about one hour, including drying with fans. The process looks like this:
- Dry vacuuming with professional equipment to remove sand, crumbs and hair from the seams and under the cushions.
- Applying an eco-friendly detergent suited to the fabric type.
- Brushing it in so the product reaches the dirt inside the fibres, not just the surface.
- Deep extraction under pressure — the solution is rinsed out together with the dissolved dirt.
- Working on difficult stains separately, with products chosen for the type of stain.
- Rinsing, so no detergent residue is left behind to attract new dirt.
- Express drying with fans, which is included in the price.
The detergents we use are certified and hypoallergenic, and because they are rinsed out, there’s no chemical smell afterwards. If you have children, are pregnant or have pets, read our article on whether chemical cleaning is safe for kids, pregnant women and pets.
How much does sofa cleaning cost in Riga?
The price depends on the size of the sofa, not on how dirty it is. You get the final price over the phone or in a message — usually from a photo — and it does not go up after the technician arrives.
- Straight sofa — 45 €; large straight sofa over 2 m — 50 €.
- Corner sofa — from 48 € (up to 58 € depending on size). Details on the corner sofa cleaning page.
- U-shaped sofa — 65 €.
- Strong odour removal (urine, sweat, smoke) — +5 € for an enzyme treatment. The technician tells you before starting.
- Minimum order — 45 €. In most cases one sofa already covers it.
Call-out in Riga is free — there is no separate travel fee. Outside Riga it costs 5–20 € depending on distance, and nothing extra if the technician is already working in your town that day. You pay after you have seen the result. The full price list for all items is on the sofa cleaning page.
A practical tip: if you also have armchairs, chairs or a mattress to clean, do it in the same visit. The minimum order is reached immediately and everything is done in one go — see upholstery cleaning and mattress cleaning.
How long does a sofa take to dry?
After cleaning, a sofa dries in about 3–4 hours; the exact time depends on the fabric. Fans speed this up and are already included. In practice this means: if the technician comes in the morning, you can use the sofa the same evening. If it has to be fully dry by a specific time — for example before guests arrive — book an early slot.
To help it dry faster, keep a window slightly open or the ventilation running, and don’t cover the sofa with blankets until it’s dry to the touch.
How often should you clean a sofa?
For most homes, once a year is a good rhythm. With pets, small children or allergy sufferers, every 6–8 months is better. Between professional cleanings, vacuum the sofa once a week, especially the gaps between cushions, and deal with fresh stains straight away with water only.
Frequently asked questions
Will every stain come out?
Most do. Fresh stains are the easiest; old ones in most cases too, but not always 100%. Send a photo and we’ll tell you honestly what to expect before the visit, not after it. If a stain remains after full drying, the technician comes back and re-cleans it for free.
What if I’m not happy with the result?
You pay only after seeing the result. If you are not satisfied, we don’t charge you.
Can you remove pet urine smell?
Yes — with a separate enzyme treatment for +5 €. More on this on the pet urine removal page and in our article about pet smell on a sofa.
